Addiction counseling

Have you ever woken up and no matter how hard you tried to resist the urge to drink or use, you end up doing it anyway? The sense of safety and comfort one can feel from emotional/psychological pain can be overwhelming.

In my practice, I treat people ages 12+ struggling with process addictions, alcohol use, and cocaine use. Cocaine acts on the brain’s reward system and provides people with a positive outlook on life. Alcohol serves a similar function in that the drowsiness associated with it helps people lessen the effect that trauma has on their psyche and manage the impact better.

Process addictions such as gambling or excessive gaming can provide a sense of accomplishment when a person is struggling. In counseling, I help clients tackle both addiction and underlying stressors such as social anxiety, struggles with self-worth, and lack of purpose and meaning through a DBT lense helping clients radically accept and cope with life stressors by being intentional about actions and identifying alternative coping strategies tailored specifically to each client.

Cost of individual sessions: Private pay $90/55 min sessions, no cost to Medicaid clients. CO Access and CCHA accepted.
